About Us

Central Ohio Customers

We are happy to announce that we will begin deliveries in Central Ohio on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.  Our service area is Delaware, Franklin, Licking and Union Counties.  All of the items on our website will be available for weekly delivery - vegetables, fruits, dairy, meat, bread and pantry goods.  The intial delivery season will be July to October.  We do deliver year-around and If there is enough interest in our products from November to June, we will also make deliveries during that period of time.

We have three pickup locations established - one in Plain City (The Wenerstrom Family), one in Granville (The Paumier Family) and one in Bexley (The Heyer Family).

If you would like to place an order for pickup in Plain City, Granville or Bexley, please go to www.isidorefoods.com/catalog/index.php.  We will be establishing more pickup locations in the near future.  Please check back here frequently.

We have formed a partnership with Green Field Farms in Holmes County, Ohio to supply your organic produce.  They are a cooperative of 25 Amish certified organic farms.  You will find their website at www.gffarms.com/.  As you will see on their website, they produce more than just vegetables.  We hope to offer a full-line of their products in the future.

Fruit, dairy and meat products will initially come from our western Pennsylvania farm partners.  As noted above, these items will also be delivered on a weekly basis.

Our Pennsylvania farm partners can be found at www.isidorefoods.com/farms.php

Our History

In the beginning by David Eson (Owner and Founder)

The business idea for forming Isidore Foods LLC came in 2006.  I wanted to start a business that strengthened Pittsburgh's local food system by connecting farmers, businesses and consumers.

Over the last eight years, the one principal lesson I learned is how much power is controlled at the retail level and how little is held by those who actually produce the food – the farmers. I learned how alternative food distribution channels, such as subscription or community supported agriculture (CSA) projects and buying clubs, could help restore that balance - and provide other benefits as well, such as:

  • protecting the environment by buying local, minimally packaged, and eco-friendly products;
  • building community by creating more direct connections between food producers and consumers;
  • reducing traffic congestion and pollution by delivering local foods on a set route;
  • educating customers about important food issues through a weekly newsletter; and
  • donating leftover food to food outreach groups and disadvantaged families.

By teaming up with an established distributor and operating a low rent warehouse, I thought a business could avoid the cost of a commercial retail space and put those resources toward paying local farmers more for their products.  We would offer our customers the convenience of workplace or neighborhood delivery for equal to or less than what they would pay at their local grocery store. And our customers would get a year-around supply of local foods - something no one else could offer.  So we made a calculated risk and started the business.

Today

Our first delivery was in July 2007 to 150 University of Pittsburgh customers.  As you sign up today, you will be joining over 1,400 Isidore Foods customers who have found their year-around source for Pittsburgh local food.  Working along side a local food distributor, over 35 local farms producing vegetables, fruits, dairy products, meats, breads and pantry items, local community groups and businesses, countless friends and family members, we are attempting to leverage the skills of all these partners to build a stronger food system in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  And now we are happy to begin serving customers in Central Ohio.

Thanks for shopping with Isidore Foods, and tell your friends and family about us.

How it Works

Individuals sign up to become customers on our website, shop on-line and pay by credit or debit card.

After your order is placed (the ordering deadline is every Sunday by 11 p.m. for delivery the following Wednesday, Thursday or Friday), we purchase your item(s) from our network of farms and businesses.  You can order fruits and vegetables, milk, cheese, eggs, meats, breads and pantry items.  The cost can be as low as $14.50 (produce box) a week for a box sized for one adult.  Additional boxes are available for 2 or more people.

Subscriptions for dairy, meat and bread items are 8 weeks long.  Subscriptions for summer vegetables is 22 weeks, fall/winter produce is 14 weeks and for spring vegetables is 13 weeks. Summer fruit box subscriptions are 15 weeks.  All subscription boxes are packed for you with the freshest ingredients available from our farms that week.

For those of you unfamiliar with a subscription service and would like to try the service before you commit to a subscription, you can order a box just once to see if you like it.

We also offer an extensive a la Carte menu for dairy, bread and pantry items.

Payment options include Visa, Mastercard and Discover.  If you do not feel comfortable leaving your payment information on this website, please contact us at info@isidorefoods.com and we can arrange monthly payment options by cash or check.

Pick up locations are available in Allegheny, Beaver and Washington Counties, Pennsylvania and Franklin, Delaware and Union Counties, Ohio at this time. During the ordering process you will have the opportunity to select your pickup location.  Our delivery locations and days of delivery are listed below.

One Time Orders and a la Carte

Since many of our customers will have subscriptions with us, they will need to only order a box once during their subscription period. If current subscribers want to add an item from one of our a la carte menus to their weekly subscription, orders must be placed by 11 p.m. each Sunday for delivery on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.  Orders placed on Monday, Tuesday, etc. will be delivered the following week.

Isidore Foods LLC needs at least two days to gather the products you order from area farms and businesses. Since many of the items you are ordering are hand crafted farm products and come from small farms, a week's notice will give everyone we rely upon to fill your subscription the time they need to pick, pack and deliver your item to our warehouse.
