Mark your calendars and then keep an eye on the weather forecast if you want to be among the first people to partake of the Pittsburgh Food Truck Park this spring.
The Millvale venue, announced last summer as coming together in and outside a former skate park in the town’s Riverfront Park, will open for limited weekend hours starting April 6.
All that month, as part of what the owners are calling its “Construction Series,” the park will be open 4 to 11 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays “so you can take advantage of any pleasant spring days that happen to pop up.”
Even though they won’t be done working on the place and they know the weather might be dicey, they’ll have a rotating menu of mobile food providers outside, live entertainment and a draft list of 30 local beers, ciders and wine in the indoor wine area with a rooftop deck.
Regular events also kick off April 7 with outdoor yoga with the Millvale Yoga Collective, and there will be a May 5 Cinco de Mayo “taco truck extravaganza.”
Park general manager Stephanie Brea notes that April 7 also will be the debut of the Pittsburgh area’s Cousins Maine Lobster truck. “They got a bunch of interest when they announced that they were coming on the scene, and we are their first event.”
As they complete construction and the weather gets somewhat more reliable warmer, the park plans to add Sunday and Monday hours.

The park, right on the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and the Allegheny River at the 40th Street Bridge to Lawrenceville, includes an outdoor games area with fire pits and an events space that can be rented so people can enjoy the half dozen or so food trucks that will rotate daily. Millvale native Shawn Lang says he and his co-owner brothers, Matt and Tony, want to serve Pittsburgh’s “passionate food truck, craft beer, biking and music communities.” They held a preview party there in November.
