It was a big month in Pittsburgh food. Chrissy Teigen ate Pittsburgh pizza. Mayochup debutedin stores. And a whole bunch of restaurants opened — think homemade pasta, pilsners, and milkshakes.

412 Brewery, Allegheny West

“What do you get when you get a couple guys from the Rocks who love beer and are proud of where they came from?” the brewery playfully asks on Twitter. “You get 412 brewery. We are THE 412.” The cozy 5-barrel brewery, which first started in a two-car garage in McKees Rocks, now has an Allegheny West taproom.

Alta Via, Fox Chapel

Officially open as of today, the newest concept from Big Burrito Group is all about the wood-fired hearth. On the menu, you’ll find homemade pasta and vegetable-forward recipes but plenty of meat dishes, too. And decadent desserts like this one:

Bloomfield Groceria, Bloomfield

This Italian market offers groceries, deli meats, and cheeses and will soon begin selling hot lunches. Bloomfield Groceria is located in the spot where the beloved Groceria Italiana used to be. And, yes, the Post-Gazette reports, the freezers are stocked with ravioli.

The Milkshake Factory, Oakland

A new location of The Milkshake Factory is now shaking it up in Oakland.

Penn Brewery, Downtown

Dubbed “Pittsburgh’s newest oldest brewery,” Penn Brewery’s Downtown taproom is now open. Look for year-round classics like the Penn Pilsner alongside seasonal specialties like the St. Nikolaus Bock. The Downtown spot is serving up a limited but satisfying menu, along with happy hour specials.

Bridges & Bourbon, Downtown

After a year spent gutting the former Seviche space, Bridges & Bourbon is set to launch soon, the venue promised in a Facebook post. Bridges & Bourbon describes itself as a “high-end restaurant focusing on modernist cocktails, small plates, and desserts, with weekend brunch.”

Dish Osteria, South Side

Rigatoni wishes and gnocchi dreams are coming true later this spring: Dish Osteria is re-opening after a two-year hiatus. “The service, the atmosphere, the bar, the music … all the things people loved over the years will be back. We’re not going to reinvent the wheel from scratch,” the restaurateur told Pittsburgh Magazine. An opening date isn’t set, but expect it soon.

Garbarino’s, East Liberty

A fourth-generation Italian restaurant, Garbarino’s will take over the former La Riviera Bistro as of April 12, the restaurant announced in a press release. Garbarino’s is designed as a wine bar and neighborhood trattoria with family recipes, house-made pasta, and locally sourced ingredients. A happy hour special offers a bucket of Peronis with Peroni-battered artichoke hearts.

Gi-Jin, Downtown

The subject of years of anticipation, restaurateurs Richard DeShantz and Tolga Sevdik are expected to open Gi-Jin soon — likely in May. Look for sushi, gin, Japanese whiskey, and a giant dragon mural.

Thunderbird Cafe & Music Hall, Lawrenceville

Thunderbird, a historic spot for music and drinks, is set to re-open soon after renovations, but the opening has been “delayed by a utility service, which is out of our control,” the venue announced. Thunderbird postponed its opening day and relocated its concerts scheduled for April to other music venues in the city.

 Leo. A Public House., from the team behind Lola Bistro, will sell beer, wine and sandwiches on the North Side.

A Lawrenceville location for Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream is expected to set up shop this spring.

 North Shore Seven, a restaurant near Heinz Field from Ben Roethlisberger, is planned to open this spring, boasting made-from-scratch entrees and “Hollywood-style booth seating,” which is maybe just a little excessive.

 A permanent location for Pigeon Bagels is expected to open this spring.

 Con Alma is coming to Shadyside this spring with Latin-inspired cuisine, plus live jazz and cocktails.

 A new outpost for Gaby et Jules Patisseries et Macaron bakery is scheduled for East Liberty this summer.

 A yet-to-be-named 14-seat sushi counter tucked on the second floor between Round Corner Cantini and Umami in Lawrenceville is set to open this summer.

The Woods House, a Scottish pub, is slated for one of Pittsburgh’s oldest houses. Crews are working toward summer pop-ups and a fall opening.

 Platform Beer Co., the Cleveland-based brewery, will open a brewery and tasting room this year in Garfield.

 Brick Shop and Over Eden restaurants at TRYP Hotel will feature two prominent Pittsburgh chefs when they open, date TBA.

 A Cinderlands brewpub is under construction in the former Spaghetti Warehouse building in the Strip District.

Larder at Larimer, a new restaurant from Justin Severino is expected to open inside East End Brewing Taproom sometime this spring with everything from pub food to falafel with tahini.

A Mexican-Italian fusion is coming to the Strip District in partnership with Edgar Alvarez of Edgar’s Best Tacos.

 Fig & Ash, a “farm-to-flame restaurant,” is headed to Deutschtown.

 Rogan Brewing Co., a taproom with pints and growlers, is coming to West Homestead.

SYN Taqueria & Pizzeria will open in the former Sharp Edge Friendship location.

 Shorty’s Pins x Pints, a new entertainment concept with duckpin bowling, bocce, pinball, cornhole, and giant beer pong, plus street food, is coming to the North Shore by year’s end.

 Grist House Craft Brewery is turning a Collier Township Cold War-era Nike Missile Command Center into another outpost for the popular brewery. But a lot of work is ahead, so be patient on an opening date expected for a year or two from now.

 Look for a location of the Punch Bowl Social chain with food and drinks, plus ping pong, darts, bowling, classic video games, and karaoke in the Lower Hill in 2020.

A Rascal Flatts restaurant is coming to Station Square. … Maybe. The operator has been served with an eviction notice, and there’s plenty of legal drama, the Business Times explains.

Cure, Lawrenceville

The restaurant that put Pittsburgh’s food scene on the map has officially closed after seven years. Cure, led by Justin Severino and Hilary Prescott Severino, will now become the production facility for Salty Pork Bits, the Severinos’ online charcuterie company, Pittsburgh Magazine reports.
